The Borderline painting series is the collision, blurring and juxtaposing of West's diverse catalogue of painting techniques to create a complex multi-layered wandering visual plane saturated with stacked colour, unique lines and unpredictable forms. The series is West's current focus for the foreseeable future.
I see Borderline as paintings that represents the now. The series is inconsistent to a point, but recognisable that the work comes from the same origin. The paintings seem to me to look as much inward to themselves as they do outward.
Borderline aims to reflect the complexity that we find ourselves in. I believe this can only be done through other complex acts. I am looking at the dominant themes that consume us and I aim to represent them within the series.
